Jukebox Kings, "Runaway"

This is a project I did for my school, the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. The artist is my friend's band, Jukebox Kings, covering Del Shannon's "Runaway". I ran the session with help from a few friends. I was the engineer and the mixer. The session was recorded through an analog Neotek Elite console, and mixed in Pro Tools 10. A few tricks I used included the static intro, which I found in my school's sound library. I EQ'd the intro guitar to sound like it was being played through a car radio, then snapped it to the actual EQ once the full band came in. I used parallel compression on both the drums and vocals to beef them up. I added a little delay to the vocals during the choruses and outro to simulate a backing vocal.

TV and Radio Commercials

This is a 60 second radio commercial I made with my group at audio recording school. I recorded it with 2 other guys and edited it myself. That's me as the leader of the rally.

Here's another 60 second ad, recorded and edited entirely by me. That's my wife as the phone operator.

This is a 30 second TV ad where we recreated all of the audio for the pre-existing video file. I recorded this with 5 of my classmates, and edited it for the most part by myself. We did this entire process in about 3 hours. All video rights belong to Anheuser-Busch.

We did the same thing for this one, though I didn't do the editing. I did get to voice the Aflac duck though! All video rights belong to Aflac.

"Lift Index"

"Lift Index" is a song I had been working on for a few months before my uncle passed away on January 1st. After that, I felt compelled to finish and record the song, and I added the "ghost" guitar in the background, which is just a bunch of reverb with very little dry signal. I recorded and edited the song in Logic Pro X. I used two rhythm guitars, which I panned hard left and right, one guitar for the ghost guitar, a bass, and the Drummer track in Logic. The title was a temporary title that stuck; the first chord is a C, and in order to play the second chord, all I did was lift my index finger.

Cartoon Lion, "Educated"

I played bass and sang backing vocals in the Phoenix area band Cartoon Lion for a few months in 2013. I wasn't in the band long, but it was long enough to contribute to the band's four song EP, Pia Pium Petra. I don't appear in this video, but the audio includes my bass lines and multiple layers of backing vocals. You can watch my first public performance of this song here.

"Hot Spring Rain" music video

I might as well start my online portfolio with the project I had the most involvement with! In addition to directing, shooting and editing this music video, I played bass and sang backups on the song.

This was a video I made for my band Indacoda Blue back in 2008. I shot it on a Flip Cam, back when I was just making behind-the-scenes videos for the band. I edited it in iMovie '08. The coolest effect, in my opinion, was the "headphones audio" when the Robber takes the iPod from Quinn on the street. You can also catch a glimpse of my "acting" skills at the end. Luckily I'm only in it for about 1.5 seconds.

The video was never finished because we could never find the time to shoot the performance parts. Also, I had no idea what I was doing as a director. I was just winging it, as you do. As the message at the beginning says, I thought the footage was too funny to just forget about, so I made it a "half video".

I also made a version with a commentary track, mostly so I didn't forget the little tidbits about the making of the video.
